Sophie and Stephen are both huge Marvel fans — the perfect inspiration for their wedding theme! And what a day it was. An awesome couple, a beautiful venue, incredible guests… the list goes on. It was also the perfect excuse for the “dream team” to reunite once again: myself and the brilliant Six Eight Video. Days like this are the reason I love being a Villiers Barn wedding photographer.
It was my first time working at Villiers Barn and I instantly fell in love with it. The barn itself is absolutely stunning, and the grounds are even more magical. As you arrive, you’re welcomed by a gorgeous Georgian house surrounded by immaculate gardens and a peaceful lake — and yes, there were goats and ducks to visit later in the day! But one of my absolute favourite things about this venue (aside from the wonderful staff who run it) is how breathtaking it is at sunset. Golden hour at Villiers Barn is something you truly cannot miss.
The whole day was full of energy from the very beginning. The morning prep was filled with laughter, and it was lovely to see everyone so relaxed and excited. The superhero theme was woven into the details perfectly; each table featured a different Marvel character, all handmade by a friend of the couple. Their cake, designed by the talented Megan from the Essex Cake Shop, included the iconic Infinity Gauntlet on top — and not only did it look incredible, it tasted just as amazing!
Later on, Carl and I unintentionally put on a bit of a circus act while trying to get the big group photo. Usually, I’d shoot from a high window to get everyone in frame, but that wasn’t an option this time. So I made a creative decision… and climbed onto Carl’s shoulders. Terrifying? Absolutely. Effective? YES. It definitely drew everyone’s attention straight to the camera — a big win!
As evening approached, it was time for my favourite part of any wedding day: golden hour. And thankfully, we were perfectly on schedule, because once golden hour is gone… it's gone! We made it to the field just in time and it was epic. I may have screamed with excitement once… okay fine, twice. These photos became some of my favourites from the whole day. It gave Sophie and Stephen a few quiet minutes together — a chance to breathe, laugh, and soak in the fact that they were now married. It felt like such a privilege to capture those intimate, romantic moments in their newlywed bubble.
I also want to say a huge thank you to Sophie and Stephen for inviting me to stay as a guest after my photography duties were done. It was such a joy to celebrate with you and be part of your special day.
Wishing you both endless love and a lifetime of happiness. xo
