From Wedding Day to Parenthood | Essex Newborn Photographer
There is something incredibly special about being invited back into a couple’s life after their wedding day — and this time, it was for the most beautiful new chapter.
I first photographed Sophie and Stephen back in 2022 for their wedding, so when they told me they were expecting, I couldn’t have been more excited. Getting to capture this next milestone for them — from maternity through to newborn — felt so full circle.
We headed to Mersea for their maternity session on what might have been the windiest day ever. But Sophie didn’t let that stop her for a second. The wind added movement, drama and the most beautiful natural energy to the images.
We planned a couple of outfit changes to really show off her bump, creating a mix of soft, romantic portraits and windswept coastal moments. Just like during their engagement shoot and wedding day, I didn’t need to direct them much at all. They’re completely themselves together — the way Stephen instinctively reaches for Sophie, the quiet laughs they share — it all unfolds so naturally.
Maternity sessions capture that in-between chapter — the calm before everything changes.
A Relaxed In-Home Newborn Session in Essex
When baby Skylar arrived, I visited their home for a cosy newborn session — the kind of relaxed, lifestyle approach I love as an Essex newborn photographer.
Home sessions always feel that little bit more personal. You’re in your own space, surrounded by the details that make your story yours. Walking into their living room and spotting one of their wedding photographs displayed as a huge canvas on the wall genuinely stopped me in my tracks.
Seeing that moment from 2022 hanging proudly in their home felt incredibly special. It instantly felt right to include it in some of their newborn photographs — their wedding day in the background, their tiny baby in their arms. A visual reminder of how far they’ve come.
Baby Skylar – An Absolute Dream
Skylar was an absolute star. Super chilled, perfectly content, and she slept for most of the session — which meant we captured the sweetest close-ups of her tiny fingers, soft lashes and all those brand new details that change so quickly. It also meant we were able to do an outfit change and capture some super cute Christmas themed photos.
We also created some relaxed family photographs of the three of them together in their living room. Nothing overly posed. Just cuddles on the sofa, gentle kisses on Skylar’s head, and that unmistakable new-parent glow.
These are the moments that matter most — honest, natural, and full of feeling.
Full Circle
There’s something so meaningful about documenting more than just one day. From wedding to maternity to newborn, this felt like such a beautiful continuation of Sophie and Stephen’s story.
Being chosen again to capture their growing family is something I never take for granted. It’s these long-term relationships — watching couples become parents and seeing their stories unfold — that make being a photographer so incredibly special.
