Alice & Charlie’s Wedding at High House, Maldon
As an Essex wedding photographer, there are some weddings that stay with you long after the day is over – and Alice & Charlie’s wedding at the High House wedding venue in Maldon is definitely one of them. Full of emotion, personality and the most incredible dog-themed details, their day was an absolute joy to capture.
A stunning High House wedding venue
High House is a truly beautiful wedding venue in Essex. The grounds are stunning, perfect for relaxed portraits, and the adorable little bridge over the pond is always a favourite. Inside, the orangery is naturally bright and airy – honestly, every photographer’s dream and the perfect place to hold the evening celebrations
.
With gorgeous October sunshine showing up all day, it couldn’t have been a better setting.
From pre-wedding shoot to the big day
I was especially excited for Alice & Charlie’s wedding as we’d done their pre-wedding shoot a couple of months earlier. It meant they felt completely at ease in front of the camera – and I also got to meet their adorable dog, Hector, who is very much the star of the show.
Hector even helped with the ring photos, balancing Alice’s ring on his nose like a total pro. When your dog has social media fans, you have to deliver – and he did.
Hector: the true VIP
Hector was woven into the wedding in the most brilliant ways. He appeared on napkins, straws, signs, photo props, tattoos, doggy treat bags, and even as a mini figure on the cake. One of my favourite moments of the entire day was during the evening party, when giant Hector heads came out to Who Let the Dogs Out – iconic.
He was also a brilliant support during morning prep, keeping the girls company, enjoying strawberry snacks and sneaking in naps.
Relaxed mornings & emotional moments
While Alice was getting ready with her girls, Charlie and the boys had a very relaxed morning. Charlie opened some incredibly personal gifts from Alice – alongside a pair of ‘Just Married’ Crocs, which I absolutely loved.
Alice chose to have a first look with Hector, and it was such an emotional moment to capture. Pets are such a huge part of our lives, and photographing that bond was incredibly special. Her first look with her dad was equally wholesome, and Charlie definitely had a few tears when he saw her walking down the aisle.
Sunshine, portraits & party vibes
The rest of the day flowed beautifully – a relaxed drinks reception, group photos in the sunshine, and then couple portraits around the grounds, both with and without Hector. He was very happy to be let loose for a run around once formal duties were over.
After speeches and an amazing meal, we snuck out for a few evening portraits before the party really kicked off. We played a dancefloor photo game to capture fun photos with guests, ending with a big group shot that will be such a special memory in years to come.
The night finished with a champagne spray – I’ll let the gallery show how that went down.
Alice & Charlie’s High House wedding was the perfect mix of heartfelt, relaxed and fun. As an Essex wedding photographer, days like this are exactly why I love what I do.
